Yesterday afternoon we set some time aside to have a look at the SBA in one of our GP2015 demo environments.
Currently the SBA only supports a subset of functions available within eConnect and Web Services, it is a new technology. The only exception is that the SBA supports Purchasing Requisitions where the other two API’s do not currently, nor it seems are they likely to in the future.
The main areas supported are:
- Inventory, seems to be the most complete implementation. Items and Item Transactions are supported. Also supported are price lists, unit of measures, sites classes etc..
- Purchasing, supports Payable transactions, Requisitions and Vendor Maintenance.
- Sales, supports Customer Maintenance and Receivables transactions.
Because the SBA service is based on the GP Client it also supports access to third party dictionaries. This makes it possible to provide custom dexterity logic to external applications without the need to implement it twice.
Having had a quick dig round we have discovered that there is enough in here to start getting us excited.
As we discover more about the SBA, we will share our thoughts in future posts.
